How to Use Site Maps

As always SEO Book is one of the best resources for Search engine Optimization.  Check out the article on Sitemaps, the Do’s and Don’t’s at SEOBook Blog SEO Book Sitemaps XML

I’m not sure if you realize how important a Search Widget is for your Blog but what I’ve noticed over a period of time is it is one of the most essential features.  Over a couple of years I’ve written a few hundred posts I find it essential to help me manage my blogs.  I often get questions about material I’ve done and it saves lots of messing around.   Also it makes it easier for visitors, example someone might like the Acoustic Blues Guitar Player Howlin Wolf and arrive at my blog after doing a Google Search for him and then they can look for other Acoustic Blues Guitar Youtubes as well

Here is a Simple WordPress How to Do A Blog Post, it includes images and is designed for people with good basic gweb skills and average common sense.  It is in PDF format so it is viewable across formats and Browsers.  It’s Free.

Here is a worthwhile article about Twitter.  Yes Twitter Mania has gotten out of control but it’s worthwhile stopping for a moment and sorting through the hype and instead of just signing up and saying,  “It didn’t work for me”, take a look at how to use it effectively.  A lot of people quickly tire of a web tool if they don’t don’t investigate it properly and use it effectively.

We often can find ourselves in a negative headspace and if we are not careful it’s easy to wallow in it.
If a person is wanting to push ahead and be in some way successful with anything, it’s important to get ones head together, else all that happens is a person just repeats the same on things in a different environment.

Super Blogging Tip

Each Week I’ll be Posting One Blogging Tip from around the Blogsphere, here’s this weeks:

Develop a backup system for your blog posts and contents before disaster strikes. The time to backup your posts is while you are writing them. The best method of doing so is to use an offline blog editor to compose your posts in and to publish the posts directly into your blog.

Using an off-line blog editor, such as Windows Live Writer or BlogDesk, etc. rather than posting directly into the editor on any blogging platform provides you with a back-up copy of every post on your own computer. Therefore, if you press “publish” or “save” and find that the post or page did not make it into the database you can replace it quickly and easily.

There seems to be a number of queries about the various USER TYPE options at WordPress.  To claify a number of issues, YES others can contribute,  YES they can have either full admin rights or they may have limited access.  The idea of giving anyone else full admin rights is obvisiously absurd until you are clear and know exactly how they operate.  I will be putting an invitation out for some other developers to write content at this site.

I have taken the following from the WordPress Support and have posted here for Educational Purposes.

There are four roles: Administrator, Editor, Author, and Contributor.

Administrator

An administrator can do everything. Complete power over posts/pages, comments, settings, theme choice, import, users – the whole shebang. Nothing is off-limits, including deleting the entire blog.

Editor

An editor can publish, edit, and delete any posts/pages, moderate comments, manage categories, manage tags, manage links and upload files.

Author

An author can edit, publish and delete their posts and they can upload files.

Contributor

A contributor can edit their posts but cannot publish.

Anyone invloved with the WEB Diploma Project please email me so I can set your access to the appropriate level.

50 Blogging Tips

50 Blogging Tips

Tip 1 : prepare your blog entry in Microsoft Word and save it to your hard drive. Copy and paste your blog entry into your on-line blog.
By doing this you protect your work from being obliterated mid-sentence in the event of a power failure or HD crash or upload catastrophe. Name: Sweet Violet – Web Address: http://sweetvioletsa.blogspot.com/

Tip 5: Find out what Aristotel has to say about rhetoric and apply to blogging.
Name Walker Website: http://games.walkersblog.info (in poor english, lol)

Tip 6: Let’s see…. Building a set of loyal readers is key. You can always get people to look at your blog through sites like entrecard,  technorati and blogcatalog (just to name a few) but for quality traffic you have to work a little harder. AND

Tip 7: There’s a few ways to do this, but the best way I’ve found is to be an active commentator on other people’s blogs. When they know you’re reading their blog they will be inclined to read yours.  AND

Tip 8:  is to register/submit your link to google, yahoo, ask.com etc and if you’re posting relevant material you’ll get a lot of search engine traffic that way too.  Travis – Site: News Today – http://www.newsday.today.com/

Tip 9:
Make regular entries to your blog. Don’t let a week go by without adding at least 2 or 3 postings. Keeping your content fresh and up-to -date, and relevant to the theme of your blog, should encourage repeat visits and a loyal following.
Name: Flashgamerone Address: http://www.flashgamerone.com

Tip 10 : Proofread your work. At least two or three times. Don’t let your eagerness to submit a post get in the way of a well written post. The extra time is worth it.  Name : Larry McDowell – Guitar Musings Site: www.guitarmusings.com

ONE SIMPLE TIP MAY MAKE A MASSIVE DIFFERENCE

Fifty BloggingTips

Fifty BloggingTips

Thanks to the 50 Bloggers who were kind enough to share their  Absolute Best Blogging Tips with us here  at the  Web Business Blog.

I asked a number of my favourite bloggers and online friends to help me out by posting just One Simple Tip that they felt was important to them.  I  set a goal of 50 Blogging Tips from 50 bloggers, I think we’ll surpass that pretty easily.   I’ll point out that what works for one person, another person  may not even consider as important, that’s why I’ve asked a lot of Bloggers instead of just one or two.   Intelligent people take a few ideas, implement them and then TEST TEST TEST, to see the results.  I’ve broken them up into blocks of ten.

Here we go:

1) Always have an about page to introduce yourself to the people reading you. An on the fence reader might use an about page to decide whether to bookmark you or not. The lack of an about page often makes up my mind. It doesn’t have to be personal, but put a little of yourself into it, whether you use your real name or not.And please at least try on the grammar and spelling.
Cooper website  Wonderlandornot

2) Post on a consistent basis, readers are more likely to follow if they can know how often to expect your posts, e.g. once a week or every three days or even once a month. if you post irregularly, followers will miss information or think Wtf? this guys is all over the place.

AND

3) Don’t have background music as a default… you can make it an option it often deters readers – Sir Almo website SoundSpasms

research new technologies so you can best fit your need
if you need a picture gallery, explore options
if you need file manager, explore options
don’t settle for something that doesn’t work the way you want

AND

4) Don’t be afraid to let an idea simmer. I have surprised myself many times if I just think about what I want to do for a while and save myself re-coding and re-writing. Let the solutions come to you, just think about it 🙂
Eric Wiegand websites Rogue DealsPitt Design

6) When deciding for a blog topic, choose the one that you are most interested and knowledgeable at. Most blogs fail because the blogger somehow lose interest along the way. This is why blogging about something you’re interested at will help you stay focussed and motivated. You’ll also have a better chance at success.
Rocky at Web Blog Zone

7) Don’t have pop-up ads on ur blog… Jhangora at Jhangora Blogspot

8.) Be simple yet informative.  Dosox at Dosox Blogspot

9) Similar lines to Rocky’s tip, write about what’s closest to your heart. For one thing you will find it easier, updates will be more frequent. But I advise against daily updates. This is bound to be, at times, automated content, and might well dilute the subject material. Think about your readership target, also. Information overload is not only a danger for a bloggers learning curve, but how many readers can cope with daily updates, with everything else they have to do…
Mark Antony at Guitar Mark Antony

10) When you are writing, think foremost about your intended audience, and write to them, not above or below them. (that’s true for any writing, by the way, but it’s a good tip none the less).Pair that with a reasonably quick and friendly inviting response to comments in your comments section and you will gain readers and contributors, not just hits and statistics. Which is really the goal. Getting readers and interactive followers.
