I have heard and even met some people lately who are back in the stone age with their browsers, really they are web browsers for dinosaurs and as you know, the big old fossils are long gone.  Unbeknown to some people, the web jhas also moved on and using old Browsers just don’t work with all the new web applications.

The major ossil in question is the Microsoft IE6 browser, it needs to be upgraded as soon as or really you will not be able to visit a lot of sites.

Here is a worthwhile article about Twitter.  Yes Twitter Mania has gotten out of control but it’s worthwhile stopping for a moment and sorting through the hype and instead of just signing up and saying,  “It didn’t work for me”, take a look at how to use it effectively.  A lot of people quickly tire of a web tool if they don’t don’t investigate it properly and use it effectively.

So here are a couple of sensible articles ProBlogger Twitter

The Chimps from Mailchimp, the guys that also gave the Web Universe Survey Monkey, have created a tool similar to TinyURL for shortening Web Addresses.  It’s called EepURL it integrates very nicely with Twitter, check this out Twitter Integration.  You may find this tool very useful in situations where an input box has a limit on the amount of characters you can input, or when a URL is so long that it covers a couple of lines.

Here’s a very clear simple Twitter tutorial, to get you started and up and running, to remove the mystery.  It’s created by Diana Freedman at a Blog called U Stand Out.

This is a Youtube Video  which might be of great interest to people who wish to use Facebook for Marketing.

As  I realise that most people have no interest in making money on the Web and are more interested in using Facebook strictly for socialising, very few would bother about something like this

New Search Engine Cuil

Cuil Search Engine

Cuil Search Engine

I wonder how many people are aware of the new search engine called Cuil. Cuil is supposedly larger than Google, that is a very interesting statistic. For information on submitting to Cuil go here to this link Cuil

Here is the link to Cuil Search Engine Cuil

For Frequenty Asked Questions go here to Cuil FAQ

CUIL PHILOSOPHY: The Internet is getting bigger and more disorganized every day. Cuil’s goal is to solve the two great problems of search: how to index the whole Internet—not just part of it—and how to analyze and sort out its pages so you get relevant results.

NOTE: I would be watching Cuil with great interest.  AOL search engine and others use Google as a backend, but I’ve noticed that Cuil indexes and displays its responses very differently to Google and does not give importance to the same things as Google.

I am currently testing how it works, what it lkes and what what it doesn’t rate.  Already I see a massive difference.

What Web Tools Do You Use?

February 17, 2009

We often make assumptions about what tools people consider as the most important when it comes to developing Web Content.  I’ve listed a number here and I’m curious which ones people cant live without.  For me, the most important would heve to be WordPress Blogging software.   And of recent times, since one of my main computers has died and I’m waiting on my Adobe CS4 to arrive for my Lappy, I’d have to say I’m staring to crave for the old Macromedia product Fireworks.  I don’t particularly like Photoshop.  But many people love it

So what can’t you live without?

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Concentrate hard 😉
  2. Think about what is the most important tool
  3. Tick one from the list, if it’s not there
  4. Click The Vote Button

Thankyou

NOTE:  You’ll notice there is an input box for additional tools

Keyword Suggestion Tool

February 15, 2009

Here’s a great little online tool useful to Web Designers who don’t wish to waste their time building websites about Uzbekistani  Camels or such things as the Campanula robinsiae.  It’s a no brainer tool to help with Keyword Suggestions.  It runs online at the following web address Keyword Suggest.

There is also Wordtracker the industry standard professional tool at Wordtracker website.  The old Pixelfast / Overture tool was very good but has nowbeen swalled up by the Yahoo Search crew .

If you want to be a web designer, start to develop a set of useful tools.
