This Weeks Super Blogging Tip
February 22, 2009
Each Week I’ll be Posting One Blogging Tip from around the Blogsphere, here’s this weeks:
Develop a backup system for your blog posts and contents before disaster strikes. The time to backup your posts is while you are writing them. The best method of doing so is to use an offline blog editor to compose your posts in and to publish the posts directly into your blog.
Using an off-line blog editor, such as Windows Live Writer or BlogDesk, etc. rather than posting directly into the editor on any blogging platform provides you with a back-up copy of every post on your own computer. Therefore, if you press “publish” or “save” and find that the post or page did not make it into the database you can replace it quickly and easily.

10 More Tips from 50 Bloggers – Part 3
February 21, 2009
Here are the next 10 Tips From 50 Bloggers
Tip 1: Put your contact information at the top of your side bar where it is easily visible. If you want to be contacted include more than one way to get in touch with you, email, instant messaging, etc. The more ways that a blogger can communicate the better.
Hello, my blogging name is Book Calendar. My web address is: http://bookcalendar.blogspot.com
Tip 2: Proofread. If you can catch 90% of your spelling errors and awkward wording by taking a second read-through (or, better yet, having someone else read it) you’ll be miles ahead of the slapdash bloggers who can’t be bothered. Readers like to be able to understand your posts.
AND
Tip 3: Write your passion. If you have something, like music in my case, about which you have strong feelings and some knowledge, or at least enough interest to enjoy researching every few days, then you’ll have a topic about which your readers can feel your interest. If you’re having to force yourself to blog and have no interest in your posts, you’re only wasting your time and that of people who end up at your blog. Name: legbamel – I actually have a tip for each of my blogs. Blog- http://one-step-forward.net & Blog – http://not-pop-jukebox.com
Tip 4: I would recomend the use of proper spelling and sentence structure. Avoid the use of slang or acronyms that others may not understand. However, if you do use slang or acronyms, make sure to explain what they mean. This way your reader will learn something and will most likely come back to read again. Tip 5: Encourage reader comments by asking your readers what they think about the topic you are blogging about. AND
Tip 6: Always respond to the comments on your blog–of course not all commenters return but I have had quite a few that told me that it meant a lot to them that I answered each individually. AND
Tip 7: Don’t have peripheral content that is distracting to the primary purpose of your blog (which should be the posted topics, imo). For example, don’t have tons of widgets that don’t make sense to the purpose of your blog, such as a paypal when you aren’t selling anything on your blog, or other strange widgets that take up too much resources, causing pages to load s-l-o-w-l-y. AND
Tip 8: Write with passion. If you are passionate about your topics, your readers will sense it. blog: http://melindaville.com mtyler77
Tip 9: Do not give up hope. It takes time to build a successful blog. I’m talking weeks and months and maybe years. Be patient.Name: Gabriel Gadfly – Blog: http://gabrielgadfly.com
Tip 10: I used to be a Cold Fusion developer. Before that I was an editor. These tips are intended to apply both to writing code and writing essays. Never be satisfied with your first effort. Your work can always be simpler, cleaner, more economical.
Check, check and recheck again. Then go over it again the next day just to be sure.

WordPress Link Category Rename Error Fixed
February 14, 2009
A week or so back I discovered my second error with WordPress 2.7, well actually it was theirs not mine. One thing I’ve developed over the years is an eye for errors and being able to discriminate if it’s a user error or a real error. I had some trouble with Changing the Link Category Name. For me this is very important. A lot of bloggers wouldn’t even consider this as an issue, but there’s the odd little trick you can do with your sidebar if you’re smart.
So I emailed the Support Team at WordPress and they’re always helpful and they got back to me pretty fast, same day etc, and said it was a coding error. Today they emailed me to let me know it’s up and running again.
So here’s how to change the names of your Link Categories:
- Click on Links on the left hand menu
- When the dropdown menu expands – Click on
- In the middle of the screen under Name, there’s a list of Link Categories
- Mouse Over (RollOver) the one you wish to change Link Category Names
- Click on Edit – You will now be on another page
- In the Category Name Text Area – Write in the New Name e.g. Tony Hogan’s Cool Blogs
- In the Description Text Area – Write in some descriptive text e.g. ” Link to Send Tony Lots of Money”
- Click on Update Category Button –
- Check that the Category Name has changedYou will then return to the Link Categories page

Entrepreneurs Journey Yaro Starak Blogger
February 13, 2009
If you are not familiar with Yaro’s work at Entrepreneurs Journey as a Blogger, it’s worthwhile checing him out Yaro is the creator of the Blog Profits Blueprint eBook, the industry standard eBook for bloggers globally. Check out his book Blog Profits
The tips in here are practical and many are appliable by people with minimal computer skills. I’m going to get students studying on a Web Development Diploma to sign up with Yaro, analyse what is in it, pick what they consider to be the twenty most important Blogger Tips and then post them here.
Many of the Web Design courses which are run by Educational Institutions often only cover interface design and a little tiny bit on keywords. As a number of us who are teaching on the Web Diploma work non-stop on the web and are constantly looking for new strategies that are happening NOW or about to happen, we are prepared to push the parameters a little as we wish our students to be successful in their careers and have more than just a piece of paper to show for their efforts.
Social Networking has been around for a few years now and to leave them out of the mix, is a severe mistake. In fact, the web is now moving ahead and way past Social Networking and it’s worthwhile looking to see where it’s all heading. Social Networks in a way are a bit like online Islands where people communicate, but what we are seeing now is the cross polination with other Social Networks and the power of this bwhen analysed creates numerous opportunities for those that have their heads up and have the vision to see what is useful and what is not, and those with the ability to quickly see and work out testing methodoligies to ascertain what really works and what is basically crap. I have been watching Yaro for sometime. His is NOT the only way but he has a working model. Yaro’s site is at Entrepreneurs Journey
Here is one of Yaro’s Pillar Articles Internet Summit Read it Now
Seth Godin Lectures the Google Guys
February 10, 2009
If you are a web designer and have no idea who Seth Godin is , you may as well be dead or at minimum you might like to bury your computer, buy a natural hemp outfit and go live in the hills at Nimbin. Here’s Seth’s Blog, I suggest, should I have to suggest you subscribe to it, here’s his link Seth Godin
Seth Godin lectures to the guys at Google, if that doesn’t make alarm bells ring. Here’s a link to his famous chat he had at Google. Seth Godin Youtube. One thing worth noting about Seth Godin’s Blog is the simplicity of it. His posts are simple and to the point and also note his advertising on the left column, a simple two column Blog and his products for sale are his books. This guy is realy just marketing his brain content. He is well worth exploring.
If you are sensible, you’d watch his video and list 20 things that he mentions in his talks. And then put into practice what he says.
